A $10.25 million penthouse is under contract in Claremont Hall on the Morningside Heights campus of Union Theological Seminary in upper Manhattan.

The development has been in the works for decades, and the penthouse is expected to establish a neighborhood record upon completion.

The tower was constructed with the institution, which was established in 1836 and is the oldest independent seminary in the United States.

The 41-story, mixed-use luxury building designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects incorporates the 1908 Gothic Revival-style exterior of the seminary’s former refectory.

Lend Lease (of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum), LMXD (the new entity linked with L+M Development Partners), and Daiwa House Texas are the developers.

The penthouse has four bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms, and 433 square feet of patio area with breathtaking 360-degree views.

A gas fireplace, a wet bar, an open chef’s kitchen, and a private elevator entry are incorporated as design elements.

In addition, there are lofty ceilings, large windows, and white wood floors.

Designed in collaboration with CetraRuddy Architects, the building’s amenities include a pool, a gym, a walnut-paneled library and dining room, a resident lounge with a terrace, a children’s playroom, and a “creative maker’s room.”

The first nine levels of the tower are devoted to instructional areas and accommodation for seminary faculty, followed by 165 luxury condos for sale on the tenth floor and above.

Alumni of the seminary include US Democratic Senator from Georgia Raphael Warnock, Karenna Gore, a lawyer and climate activist who is the daughter of former Vice President Al Gore, the late David Dellinger, a peace activist and member of the Chicago Seven, and the late Nelson Cruikshank, a labor union activist and strategist involved in the passage of Medicare.

However, not all of the seminary’s more recent pupils favor the initiative. In 2015, several of them reenacted Jesus expelling the moneychangers from the temple, protesting with placards that read “What would Jesus build?” and “There are no condominiums in the Kingdom of Heaven!”

The sales and marketing department is led by Sophia Cicilioni of Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group.
