LP Candidate Wins Abia State Governorship Election

The final results of the Abia State governorship and state assembly elections, held last Saturday, have been announced.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) stated that the total number of registered voters in the state was 2,120,808.

LP Candidate Declared Winner: On Wednesday evening, the Returning Officer of the election, Professor Nnenna Oti, announced the winner of the governorship election.

She declared Alex Otti, the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), as the winner of the election.

According to her, Otti garnered 175,467 votes, defeating his main challenger, Chief Okey Ahiwe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who won 88,529 votes.

LP and PDP’s Performance: The final results revealed that the LP candidate won in 10 local government areas, while the PDP candidate won in six local government areas.

It indicates a significant victory for the LP candidate, as he won more local government areas than his opponent.

YPP Candidate’s Performance: In the election, the candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Enyinnaya Chima Nwafor, won in the Osisioma Local Government Area, where he hails from.

It was the only local government area won by YPP in the state.

The result of the Abia State governorship and state assembly elections showed the triumph of Alex Otti, the candidate of the LP.

The election was keenly contested, but he emerged victorious, winning in more local government areas than his opponent.

The victory of Otti and LP indicates a significant shift in the state’s political landscape, which PDP had previously dominated.
