Lottery Players’ Warning

Lottery Players’ Warning

Ahead of this weekend’s triple rollover, lottery players should take note of a cautionary tale involving Rachel Kennedy and Liam McCrohan.

The couple from Hertfordshire almost won the £182million Euromillions jackpot two years ago when their regular numbers were drawn, but they missed out on the prize because their account did not have sufficient funds to purchase the ticket.

Miss Kennedy, who was a 19-year-old Brighton University undergraduate at the time, had set up her account to automatically purchase her Euromillions ticket using her usual numbers.

Six weeks after playing the same seven digits, the couple’s numbers came up in the draw, and Miss Kennedy received a notification on her app that their numbers were a ‘winning match.’

She immediately called the Euromillions number to confirm the news but was devastated to learn that their ticket had not been valid because the payment had not gone through.

The couple were left ‘absolutely heartbroken’ and could not believe that they had come so close to winning the jackpot.

The Euromillions jackpot that they missed out on was rolled over five times and was eventually claimed by a winner in Switzerland.

As lottery players try their luck on this weekend’s £7.5million jackpot, the couple’s story serves as a stark reminder to ensure that your accounts have sufficient funds to purchase tickets.

Numbers for the current jackpot will be drawn at 8 pm on Saturday, and tickets must be purchased by 7:30 pm to be counted in the draw.
