Felicity Cornelius-Mercer criticized the Prime Minister on Twitter for degrading the treatment of the United Kingdom’s 2.4 million veterans.

Mrs. Cornelius-Mercer remarked, in reference to the selection of Sarah Atherton as Minister for Defence, People and Veterans, “Sarah is gorgeous and the only woman from the ranks to serve in Parliament.

“But also conclusive evidence that @trussliz has no intention of keeping her commitment to appoint a designated minister of state for veterans issues to her first cabinet. The position has been degraded further.

In response, Mrs. Cornelius-Mercer was asked how her husband, the former Veterans Minister Mr. Mercer, was doing, to which she responded, “fed up.”

Mrs. Cornelius-Mercer criticized Ms. Truss for not “keeping her word” to establish a dedicated minister for veterans.

Mrs. Cornelius-Mercer stated that the choice of Sarah Atherton as Minister for Defence, People and Veterans proved that Ms. Truss had “no intention” of keeping her promise to designate a dedicated veterans minister.

She continues, “I will continue to say this until people stop ordering me to be quiet in a condescending manner: I am married to a veteran. It is my fight. It can be fought by anyone.

“Johnny removed veterans care from the Department of Defense because it does not work there. He established the veterans affairs office within the autonomous cabinet office. Similar layout to USA, Canada, Oz etc. It has been placed back where it is ineffective for veterans.

Mrs. Cornelius-Mercer criticized the nomination of James Heappey as Minister for the Armed Forces and Veterans earlier this month, citing her husband’s argument that veterans care should stand alone.

She continued by saying she would keep pressing on the issue as she is married to a veteran and 'it is my battle'

She tweeted, “Reversing the seven years of effort my husband did to move veterans away from the Ministry of Defense, where it failed him and so many others, and proving she lied in the leadership election to “keep veterans affairs where they are.”

Mrs. Atherton, the first Conservative to represent the Wrexham constituency, joined the military after high school and served in the Intelligence Corps.

She went on to declare that she will continue to pursue the matter because she is married to a veteran and “it is my war.”

The new minister serves on the Defence Select Committee and supports travel discounts for injured former members of the British Armed Forces.

In her capacity as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Wales, she advocated for prosecutions of sexual assault within the armed forces to occur in civilian courts rather than military courts.

Prior to directing her husband’s parliamentary office, Mrs. Cornelius-Mercer worked as a supervisor at MK Airlines, a Ghanaian freight transport company headquartered in East Sussex until its bankruptcy in 2010.

As part of her 2022 New Year’s objectives, the mother of three completed her training and obtained her lifeguard certification earlier this year.

Mrs. Cornelius-Mercer had earlier criticized James Heappey’s selection as Minister for the Armed Forces, as well as Mrs. Atherton’s (both pictured)

She described the certification as “proof that your hard work has paid off” and expressed her happiness at her “feeling of accomplishment.”

Earlier this year, she disclosed that her husband was so “p****d” after a phone chat with then-prime minister Boris Johnson that he could not recall their talk the next day.

The Plymouth Moor View representative defended his wife when she was criticized for the tweet.

She is on this crazy trip with me, experiencing both the highs and lows. She has every right to insult me/the prime minister/whoever she pleases,’ he remarked online.
