According to a report by The Athletic, LeBron James is likely to be absent for an extended period due to an injured right foot. The injury occurred during the Lakers’ recent game against the Dallas Mavericks, where James scored 26 points despite the injury. However, he is now expected to be sidelined indefinitely.

The timing of James’ absence could not be worse for the Lakers, who are currently trying to secure a spot in the postseason. Los Angeles is currently 12th in the Western Conference, just one game behind the Pelicans for the final spot in the play-in tournament. The Lakers have won three straight games but have some challenging opponents ahead, including the Memphis Grizzlies, Golden State Warriors, and the Dallas Mavericks.

James’ potential absence jeopardises the Lakers’ playoff goal, as he has been a key player for the team this season, averaging 29.5 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 6.9 assists per game.

This injury is not the first that James has suffered this season. He also suffered a hand injury during the All-Star game, which caused him to sit out after halftime. Despite scoring 13 points in the first two quarters, James appeared to jam a finger on the rim on a blocked-shot attempt in the second quarter. He said afterwards that he did not think it was too much to worry about, but he decided to take the rest of the night off for precautionary reasons.

James has also experienced a few other ailments throughout the 2022-23 season, including a knee injury and groin strain. Before the All-Star break, he stated that he would not push himself too hard in the following games, as they are “23 of the most important games of my career.”
