As part of its attempts to revitalise the activities of the movements in Lagos, the Lagos State Cooperative College (LASCOCO) has organised capacity-building training for members of all newly registered Cooperative Societies in the state.
In his opening address at the start of the training programme in Agege, Mr. Akorede Ojomu, Provost of the College, stated that it was designed to improve participants’ managerial skills, emphasising that LASCOCO has the statutory responsibility of delivering exhaustive education to cooperators for effective management of their cooperative societies.
In his words: “The College has been saddled with the provision of various intervention, cooperative educational programmes comprising of short, medium and long term professional courses, as well as National Diploma programmes, in various cooperative studies”.
According to Ojomu, the training was designed not only to educate participants to the fundamentals of cooperative enterprise, but also to enhance the performance of bookkeepers and trustees of cooperative societies for profit.
Mr. Olabode Fagbiye, the Program’s Director, urged participants to take advantage of the capacity-building program’s chance to get more information for the effective and efficient administration of their societies and the benefit of their members.
He said that cooperative societies help a society’s socioeconomic progress, which is why the current government is determined to constantly offer an enabling environment, including enacting necessary legislation to support the cooperative movement in Lagos State.
Fagbiye emphasised that the State Government would deal firmly with any erring official who deviated from the stated objectives by indulging in corrupt administration of their respective societies.
