‘Lady Whistledown of SA’: Tweeps show love to blogger Musa Khawula

Love him or loathe him, Musa Khawula keeps the Twitter timeline entertained with his daily celebrity gossip scoops

The infamous blogger has become a household name on the Twitter streets after gaining a reputation for his wild allegations about Mzansi’s stars.

Musa Khawula has made headlines repeatedly in recent weeks over allegations pertaining to some of the biggest stars in South Africa

Some of his recent claims include:

  • Somizi allegedly having a new fiancé and allegedly refusing to pay his estranged husband Mohale Motaung half of his estate in their divorce proceedings
  • Minnie Dlamini allegedly having an affair with controversial businessman Edwin Sodi
  • Mihlali allegedly dating married man Leeroy Sidembe
  • DJ Sbu allegedly “stealing” Zahara’s music awards
  • Andile Mpisane allegedly being the biological father of Cassper Nyovest’s son

WHY HASN’T HE BEEN SUED YET?

When it comes to South Africa’s press code, Musa Khawula often throws caution to the wind.

That’s because as a celebrity blogger, his posts are based on “sources” and other “inside info”, which are often unproven and factually incorrect. In terms of media law, that equates to defamation of character and libel.

A number of high-profile stars have previously threatened to sue Musa Khawula for the past. They include:

  • Bheki Cele threatened to sue him if he did not “retract and apologise” after posting claims that the police minister partied with his “panty-less” daughter at a Cape Town nightclub
  • Bonang hinted at “doing something” after Musa Khawula claimed she had “purchased” a new nose
  • DJ Sbu threatened a R1 million lawsuit after Musa claimed he allegedly stole fellow muso Zahara’s missing music awards.

However, DJ Sbu revealed he had had a change of heart and decided to abandon his plans.

Speaking on a podcast called The Hustlers, he said: “I don’t want to destroy the career of a young person who sees Twitter as a platform to grow their careers. I don’t want to send lawyers because I can afford to. I don’t want to put that person in a position where they have to pay R100 for the rest of their lives because I sued them”.
