A few minutes after guiding Georgia to a dramatic comeback victory in the Peach Bowl, Stetson Bennett received severe criticism or perhaps tough love from his coach.

Bennett delivered a 10-yard touchdown pass with 54 seconds remaining to hoist the Bulldogs over Ohio State, but when Georgia coach Kirby Smart was asked what the quarterback had showed him, he didn’t mince words.

In an on-field interview with ESPN, Smart remarked, “Well, he showed terrific competitive character.” “But he’s gotta play within our system and he’s gotta do what he’s trained to do, otherwise you can’t win games. He didn’t receive those opportunities until the defense stopped them. We were fortunate enough to halt them twice. He must play better if we expect to win the next one.”

The following contest will be the national championship against TCU.

On December 31, 2022, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart (l.) converses with quarterback Stetson Bennett (13) during a game versus Ohio State.

Bennett made this possible by guiding Georgia to a fourth-quarter comeback from a 14-point deficit. After the Bulldogs kicked a field goal with 10:54 remaining, their defense forced a three-and-out, and Bennett threw a touchdown pass of 76 yards to Arian Smith, with the two-point conversion bringing the score to 38-35.

Then, after Ohio State settled for a field goal with 2:43 remaining, Bennett directed a five-play, 72-yard drive that culminated with Adonai Mitchell catching the game-winning touchdown pass.

Bennett, a former walk-on, completed the game 23-for-34 for 398 yards, three touchdowns, one interception, and a touchdown on the ground. In the first and fourth quarters, he completed 19 of 22 passes for 300 yards and three touchdowns, respectively. In the second and third quarters, he completed only four of twelve passes for 98 yards and one interception.

Bennett told reporters that he believed he played poorly for a stretch of 30 minutes and that he needed to review the game film to determine what needed to be fixed. Therefore, we must fix that.
