Kelly Bensimon, best known for her role on “The Real Housewives of New York,” recently revealed why she canceled her wedding to fiancé Scott Litner just days before the ceremony.
At 56, Bensimon has decided to put her own financial security first.
Despite her desire for a ‘sexy’ and ‘unique’ wedding dress, the wedding plans came to a halt because Litner refused to sign a prenuptial agreement, which Bensimon described as ‘the ultimate red flag.’

“I haven’t come this far in business and life to start making poor decisions because of a man,” Bensimon shared with Us Weekly.
“He of all people should have understood the need to protect each other before we tied the knot.
I’m truly shocked he refused a prenup.”
With a net worth of $10 million, Bensimon emphasized the importance of legal protections before marriage.
A Shocking Turn of Events
Litner, a wealth advisor, seemingly expected Bensimon to enter the marriage without legal safeguards.
This assumption led to a surprising and disappointing revelation for Bensimon.
In a separate statement, she expressed her disappointment, noting that she had looked forward to this new chapter in her life until everything became clear late on a Tuesday afternoon.
Prioritizing Family
In a statement to Page Six, Bensimon announced, “I have decided that my two daughters are my priority and I won’t be moving forward with this wedding.”
A close source revealed to People that Kelly is now taking time to focus on herself.
The couple had been planning a June 29 ceremony with two events: a backyard wedding in Boston for close family and a larger party in the Hamptons.
Engagement Story
The couple got engaged last summer over the Fourth of July weekend at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, a place significant to Bensimon from her childhood.
Scott proposed on a speedboat, catching Kelly off guard while she wore a tiny lilac bikini.
“Scott proposed to me, literally in Wisconsin near where I was raised.
I was raised in Rockford, Illinois, and he proposed to me in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin,”

Bensimon had previously expressed her excitement about marrying Litner.

Despite the canceled wedding, Bensimon remains optimistic about the future.
She was scheduled to pick up her three wedding dresses from Kleinfeld’s shortly before the decision to call off the wedding.
Earlier this month, she expressed her disbelief and joy about getting married later in life, stating she wouldn’t change anything about the journey leading up to her planned wedding day.
She recently enjoyed a mini bachelorette trip to Sandals Dunn’s River in Jamaica with her daughters, showing her commitment to family and personal happiness.
