Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane says Chiefs were never in the race to sign Bongani Zungu

In response to media allegations that the Kaizer Chiefs wanted to sign Bongani Zungu, head coach Arthur Zwane of the team clarified the situation.

Since departing French team Amiens SC at the end of the previous season, Zungu has been without a club, but rumours that he may be going back home have gained traction.

Zungu, who has been playing abroad since 2016, has been linked to Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns as prospective suitors.

Now, Zwane has admitted that Chiefs were never in the running to sign the former Bafana Bafana international in an interview with Ukhozi FM on Wednesday.

In fact, according to Zwane, Chiefs have never expressed an interest in Zungu, which will undoubtedly demoralise some team supporters.

Given Zwane’s most recent comments, Zungu might be returning to Sundowns, where the technical crew highly values him.

The midfielder was seen exercising with his previous team, according to several media sources, which indicate that the Zungu to Sundowns trade is nearly complete.

Now that Chiefs are out of the running, Sundowns supporters should get ready for a Zungu reunion before the transfer market closes in September.
