Kaizer Chiefs Arthur Zwane: two priority areas he’ll focus on to succeed at Amakhosi this season

Coaching Kaizer Chiefs is the hottest seat in South African sport. Come August 6th, Arthur Zwane will be the PSL coach under the most scrutiny. He will concentrate on these two areas to be successful at Amakhosi.

Although it seems like a lifetime ago, the Glamour Boys invited the media to a press conference at the FNB Stadium on May 26. The decision to name Arthur Jabulani Zwane as the new head coach was made public there by the club.

The Soweto-born coach took over for the fired Scotsman Stuart Baxter, who was sacked late in the previous campaign after a succession of disappointing performances.

What are the first actions Zwane will do after launching an overhaul that involves the signing of nine players and the release of 12 players?

Well, if you look at the players that have been signed, it is somewhat evident. There are a tonne of attackers and midfielders. In other words, Zwane will spend many long nights developing combinations and creating danger for the opposition in the centre and on the frontline.

MIDFIELD

Yusuf Maart, a dynamic central midfielder, was a blockbuster acquisition for Amakhosi, along with other new central players Siyethemba Sithebe, George Matlou, and Kamohelo Mahlatsi.

Therefore, integrating these players, particularly Maart, into the team is Zwane’s immediate duty. In actuality, Maart and Ashley Du Preez are anticipated to be the team’s cornerstones.

ATTACK

Ashley Du Preez was one of the first acquisitions of the year, however the Soweto giants are still looking for more forwards.

The former Stellenbosch attacker is said to have cost between R10 and R15 million, making him the most expensive purchase of the window.

Therefore, it stands to reason that Zwane will plan his attack to bring out the best in the 24-year-old Du Preez. Will Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly cease to be the key men? Only Zwane knows.

On Saturday, August 6, at 17:30, the Phefeni Glamour Boys will play their first game of the new season against Royal AM at Chatsworth Stadium.
