Jude Bellingham, a 19-year-old English midfielder for Borussia Dortmund, was named captain for the first time prior to Saturday’s away Bundesliga match against Cologne.
Bellingham, who was named to the Dortmund leadership group along with Marco Reus and Mats Hummels in the summer, was awarded the captain’s armband when Hummels was unable to play due to illness.
Bellingham, who is presently in his third season with Dortmund, has been a starter for quite some time.
“He is a someone who leads from the front. “He did not receive it for nothing; he earned it,” coach Edin Terzic told Sky.
“It is irrelevant how old or how long he has been with us. He embodies much of what we desire to see on the field.
Because of this, he clearly deserves it.
