Jeremy Renner was hit by a snow plow while attempting to save his nephew

According to a Nevada sheriff’s office incident report, “Avengers” star Jeremy Renner was accidentally crushed by a snow plow while attempting to protect his adult nephew from being struck by the machine.

According to a new, redacted Washoe County Sheriff’s Office investigation, the “Hurt Locker” actor failed to apply the emergency brake when the vehicle began to slide downhill after he used it to lift his nephew’s pickup out of the snow (via CNN).

The inquiry concludes, “The Pistenbully snow groomer began sliding, causing Renner to exit the vehicle without applying the emergency brake.”

“Although the Pistenbully has some mechanical faults, our mechanical inspection suggests that the parking brake would prevent it from moving forward.

“When Renner attempted to stop or redirect the Pistenbully to prevent injury to (his nephew), he was pulled under the vehicle and run over by the track.”

The report also states that the brake indicator light was out of commission and that “mechanical problems may have contributed to this accident.”

Renner’s nephew assisted him as they awaited the arrival of emergency personnel and his transport to a trauma center. His representative verified at the time that he was in “critical but stable condition” and had undergone multiple surgeries for “blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries.”

This month, Renner, 52, returned home after spending nearly two weeks in the hospital. He then disclosed that he fractured over thirty bones in the snow plow accident that occurred on January 1st.

Alongside a photo of himself in a hospital bed with a doctor stretching his leg, he said, “These 30 plus broken bones will heal and grow stronger, just as the love and bond with family and friends grows.”

“With much affection and gratitude,” he wrote.
