During a post-game interview on Tuesday night, Lane Lambert was reminded that the Islanders have yet to win a shootout this season. Lambert responded by noting that the team has now lost five shootouts this season, including their most recent game against the Wild in which they failed to score a single shootout goal.

Despite the Islanders’ solid overall performance in the game, the shootout loss could prove costly for their playoff hopes. Currently sitting in the first wild-card spot with a 31-25-8 record, they are being closely pursued by the Penguins and Sabres, among other teams.

Lambert and several players acknowledged the need for the team to improve their performance in shootouts, emphasizing the importance of finding ways to score and earn those extra points.

Meanwhile, general manager Lou Lamoriello addressed the upcoming trade deadline and the desires of veterans like Semyon Varlamov, Scott Mayfield, and Zach Parise to remain with the Islanders. He noted that their performance on the ice will be a key factor in his decision-making.

Lamoriello also expressed excitement for former Islanders coach Barry Trotz, who was recently named the future general manager of the Nashville Predators. Trotz will take over for David Poile on July 1.

In other news, the Islanders announced the signing of goaltender Tristan Lennox to a three-year, entry-level deal. Lennox was their third-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.
