IDP’s: Niger State appeals to NGOs for more support

Niger State Government in North Central Nigeria, has appealed to NGOs and corporate organizations on the need to support the Internally Displaced Persons IDP’s in the state.

Mrs Mary Noel Barje, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor of Niger State who was worried over the high rate of humanitarian needs in the IDP’s camps, stated that the state government can not comfortably cater for the IDP’s scattered across some communities, due to the constant influx of people as a result of bandit attacks.

In a press briefing on Thursday Mrs Berje reiterated the determination of the state government in ending insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other crimes in the state.

She explained that the state in collaboration with the military and other security agencies are doing all it can to checkmate the rate of the attacks.

“The state government has supported the entire security apparatus with logistics and other welfare packages to achieve effective operation” said Mrs Berje.

She however assured that drastic action is being taken against the miscreants and restive youths who have been tormenting and terrorizing residents and disrupting the peace and stability in Minna and environs.
