A TikToker that depicts life in a rural region of Alaska has gone viral.

Salina Alsworth, 25 years old, is from Port Alsworth, which according to the 2010 Census has a population of approximately 200 people. She receives her mail from an air taxi and endures a one-hour flight to the nearest grocery shop, which is over 160 miles distant.

She frequently publishes videos to her 340,000 TikTok followers displaying the beauty of the state and the reality of performing daily activities in her isolated portion of southwest Alaska.

She mentioned, for instance, in an essay for Insider that she conducts a large grocery shopping every three to four months. She said that purchasing fresh produce is a formidable challenge.

“If the weather is terrible, it could take up to a week before the fresh products I buy can be flown home,” Alsworth disclosed, adding that a tiny carton of raspberries carried in from out of state can cost $4 to $5.

Because of this, I frequently question whether I should get ripe bananas or green bananas that may become ripe by the time I use them, but I normally purchase a little amount of either.

Alsworth underlined the need of stocking up on canned items, so she often gets peaches, pears, corn, and green beans while observing expiration dates. Additionally, she eats foods that can be frozen, such as bacon, bagels, milk, shredded cheese, and lunch meat.

Alsworth explained that whereas others in the lower 48 pack their goods into their cars and head home, she must transport hers on a flight. She estimates that shipping freight to her community can cost between $0.90 and $2.50 per pound.

She carefully wraps fragile products such as eggs and bananas in bubble wrap. She reported that there is often insufficient space on her return flight for her groceries, so they are transported on a separate aircraft.

In October, Alsworth posted a video of her trip to Costco in Anchorage, Alaska, where she spent $422.35 on bagels, sweet potatoes, asparagus, cereal, ground sirloin beef patties, pepperoni, bacon, chopped salad, grapes, bananas, and additional items.

“I’m delighted to be prepared for winter,” she said in the three-minute video that garnered 30,000 views. This winter, I’ll receive many more orders for the fresh goods I need because we consume them so quickly, but for the time being, I’m set.

Alsworth stated that during the summer she works at her family’s vacation lodge, the Farm Lodge, and in the winter she works at an air taxi business.

Additionally, she sells Alaska-themed products on her Etsy site.

The Post sought a comment from Alsworth.
