House of Representative’s move to reduce penalty for attempted suicide

The House of Representatives has proposed amending the Criminal Code Act of 2004 to make attempted suicide less punishable.
The amended bill, which received second reading in plenary on Tuesday, February 15, seeks to change Section 327 to require forced counseling and community service for a term of not less than six months, rather than the current one-year incarceration.
Despite the fact that the bill was not debated, a copy of the lead debate revealed that its sponsor, Rep. Ejiro Waive, believes that suicidal people require immediate care and counseling.
