After receiving a Nest notification of ‘unfamiliar faces upstairs,’ a family in Southern California witnessed their home being burglarized while they were out to dinner.
The security camera saw two male criminals smashing into the sliding glass doors of the family’s Yorba Linda home while the family was out to dinner.
Tamara Schlachter, the owner of a residence in Orange County, is uncertain as to why the alarm did not activate.
“We actually received a notice on my phone that stated something like “unfamiliar face seen upstairs,” so I glanced at my phone, and we witnessed the entire event unfold in real time,” she told Fox 11.
When she and her daughter understood what was occurring, they immediately contacted 911.
The white-clad crooks rummaged through their possessions for around 14 minutes.
The unfortunate thieves stole between $20,000 and $30,000 worth of treasured and cherished family jewelry, leaving the family devastated.
Even though Orange County Sheriff’s Deputies responded quickly, the males were able to flee with the stolen property. And Tamara stated that not every piece of jewelry can be replaced.

Tamara’s father presented her with a pearl necklace when she was born, making it one of her most prized possessions.
She stated that on her 50th birthday, her father presented her with a necklace of black pearls.
Tamara noted that her father had penned a “wonderful saying” about its significance, and she was devastated; she stated that she would have to accept its loss.
She informed NBC Los Angeles that she later discovered the black pearl necklace at 4:30 a.m., after everyone had left.
She stated, “There are individuals coming in and stealing, robbing us of our safety, and that is the most important thing: the feeling of losing safety.”
While the objects can be replaced, Tamara wants families to feel comfortable in their own homes.
She stated that she desires to ensure that other families are safe and able to defend themselves, and that her narrative will contribute in this endeavor.
Schlachter believes another residence in her area was targeted. However, the police have not verified this.
Tamara described her family’s agony, terror, and anguish following the break-in. She added that she hopes someone will recognize the thieves and aid the investigation.
Orange County Sheriff’s Department is conducting an investigation into the thieves.
The police are attempting to identify the culprits using CCTV footage.

The event occurs at a time when the crime rate in California continues to grow and authorities launched a manhunt earlier this month for a suspected serial murderer who shot and killed five individuals in the state over the past three months.
Since July, the bodies of victims ranging in age from 21 to 54, four of whom were Hispanic, have been discovered in Stockton, and authorities have now determined that they are linked.
Paul Alexander Yaw, 35, Salvador William Dubedy Jr., 43, Jonathan Hernandez Rodriguez, 21, Juan Cruz, 52, and Lorenzo Lopez, 54, have been confirmed as the victims.
The males were discovered dead alone in the wee hours of the morning, and all murders occurred in dimly lighted locations.
Several of the casualties were unsheltered.
The Stockton Police Department issued a blurry photograph of a suspect at the end of September and stated that information is limited and that the suspect might be a male or a woman.
Police have only stated that “physical evidence” links the five homicides.

After ruling out gang violence and robbery, Police Chief Stanley McFadden stated that the department needed the public’s cooperation to uncover fresh facts.
Now, information that leads to an arrest will be compensated with $85,000, including $75,000 from the City of Stockton and an additional $10,000 from Stockton Crime Stoppers.
According to the Stockton Police Department, false information has being disseminated. The Stockton police told ABC News that all of the victims were ambushed and none of the attacks were drug or gang-related.

Yaw was the only victim who was not Hispanic out of the five.

Salvador William Dubedy Jr., age 43, was a resident and parent of Stockton. Five minutes after Yaw’s gunshot, he died at the scene of his shooting, despite police efforts to resuscitate him.
His mother, Greta Bogrow, said in a statement, ‘He was a beloved son, father, grandchild, nephew, cousin, and brother.’ He has left a tremendous void in our hearts, and I hope the perpetrator(s) be apprehended before this tragedy occurs again.’
According to Bogrow, Yaw was homeless when he passed away.
According to the San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office, Jonathan Hernandez Rodriguez, age 21, was discovered dead in a vehicle on East Hammer Lane on August 11.
54-year-old Lorenzo Lopez was one of the elderly victims. His brother Jerry Lopez stated, ‘It’s difficult to comprehend that this has occurred. My brother and I have essentially been identical twins. We were only separated by a year, so we were rather close.
He thinks that the additional $85,000 prize will assist uncover evidence that will lead to the capture of his brother’s murderer.

His wife discovered the alleged connection between the five deaths through social media and was dissatisfied that she was not contacted immediately.
Mayor of Stockton Kevin Lincoln stated that his administration is collaborating with the police department to bring the perpetrator to justice.
During the news conference, Stockton Police Chief McFadden stated, “What makes these cases so difficult is that there are no witnesses due to the location, timing, and lack of light.”
He informed reporters that detectives had analyzed hundreds of hours of video material.
We believe they are connected in some way. To what extent is yet unknown,’ he continued.
We suspect that a sequence of homicides are interconnected. The issue is that we lack evidence to determine if it is one, two, or three individuals. We simply do not know. We have no surveillance film that has captured a crime or even a pistol in someone’s grasp.’
He stated, “By definition, you might label this someone a serial killer.”
It is inconsistent with what we are accustomed to seeing in gang-related murders.
Since one of our victims was a white male, we have no reason to believe that these are hate crimes.
Several of them had homes. Some even resided in the vicinity, but they were not all homeless.’

McFadden, who became police chief only five months ago, also stated that CCTV surveillance at shooting scenes was inadequate.
Just five months ago, Stanley McFadden became the police chief of Stockton. He states that the department believes there is a connection between the homicides and is now seeking information from the public.
He remarked, “Either this person or these people are incredibly lucky in deciding where to go, or they’ve done their research and are going to spots where they know there are no cameras.”
According to him, the police department has sent ballistics out for testing but has not yet received a response.
He warned Stockton residents to avoid walking alone at night and to avoid dimly lit places.
