Hon Marama Davidson, Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence and Sexual Violence Welcomes Family Violence Death Review report

Hon Marama Davidson, Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence and Sexual Violence, has welcomed the release of the Family Violence Death Review Committee’s (FVDRC): ‘A duty to care’ report today.

Minister Davidson said the FVDRC’s seventh report, released by the Health Quality & Safety Commission New Zealand, adds to Te Aorerekura, New Zealand’s first National Strategy to End Family and Sexual Violence, which was announced in December 2021.

“The FVDRC report bolsters my resolve, as does the collaborative approach taken by government ministers with accountability in this area.”

The study confirms that we are laying a solid basis with Te Aorerekura, while also highlighting areas where we need to be even more specific and focused in our actions.

“It’s critical that all government agencies and community organizations be able to deliver the safe and effective responses that victims and perpetrators of violence require,” Minister Davidson stated.

“The recent release of our family violence workforce skill frameworks is an early but critical step in providing all workforces with a clear understanding of family violence drivers, as well as the ability to recognize risks and respond properly,” says the report.
