Heart-stopping dashcam clip exposes spate of near misses

The police have revealed heart-stopping dashcam film depicting a series of near-misses involving moronic drivers, including automobiles swerving across motorways and driving on the wrong side of the road.

Northamptonshire Police released the film following the prosecution of a number of motorists for dangerous driving. A clip depicts a massive tractor-trailer pulling onto the M1 with its rear door wide open, followed by the release of a pallet truck onto the motorway slip road.

A second video released by police shows a van driver who nearly caused an accident when he crossed traffic to exit a roundabout in the incorrect lane.

Elsewhere, a driver crosses through traffic to exit the freeway at the last possible time, and another is observed driving on the incorrect side of the road while attempting to pass a truck.

As part of Operation Snap, the Northamptonshire Police invite individuals to submit video footage of occurrences through an internet site, which they subsequently review. Between January 1 and June 30 of this year, a record number of 758 movies were uploaded by 438 persons, representing an increase of 87% over the previous year’s submissions of 405.

This year, registered vehicle owners have received 482 Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) letters, compared to 200 in 2021.

Three years ago, Operation Snap was launched so that citizens could report traffic violations online.

Northamptonshire Police received 281 recordings of drivers driving without necessary care and attention, the most common offense reported.

This was followed by footage of individuals disregarding red traffic lights. Matthew O’Connell, manager of operations for the Safer Roads Team, stated, ‘Along with our Northamptonshire Safer Roads Alliance partners, improving the driving and behavior on our roads is our top goal.

“Through education and enforcement, we must prevent individuals from endangering themselves and other motorists because they do not believe they will be caught.A separate part of the video showed a car on the wrong side of the road as it tried to overtake a lorry, picturedNorthamptonshire Police also released a clip of a huge HGV pulling onto the M1 with its rear door wide open before a pallet truck tumbled from the back and onto the motorway slip road, picturedIn one clip, a van driver pulled out at the last second in front of another motorist and exited a roundabout in the wrong lane, pictured

‘Since the commencement of Operation Snap, we now have additional eyes assisting us in keeping our roads safer, and the likelihood of being apprehended for traffic violations has increased.

“Over the past three years, it has proven to be a useful tool, and with the ongoing support of the public, we hope it will encourage all road users to use our road network legally and responsibly, thereby contributing to countywide road safety.”
