Four-star quarterback recruit Marcus Stokes, who lost his scholarship at the University of Florida after a video surfaced of him rapping a racist slur, has been awarded a scholarship at HBCU Albany State.

In November, a video of white Stokes chanting song lyrics that featured the N-word while in a car surfaced. Stokes is heard shouting “welcome back, n—-” in the video.

Summertime saw the commitment of the quarterback recruit from Nease High School in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida to play for head coach Billy Napier at the University of Florida. However, after the video became public, Florida revoked Stokes’ scholarship.

Nonetheless, Stokes tweeted that he was “blessed” to receive his “first HBCU offer” to play for Albany State, tagging head coach Quinn Gray. Historically black colleges and universities (HBCU)

“It’s quite distinctive. “Very interesting,” Kevin Stokes, the father of Marcus, told 247 Sports. We did not anticipate this at all.

Uncertain whether he will take the offer. Stokes also tweeted that he will be visiting Division II West Florida University. According to 247 Sports, he concluded his UWF visit on Wednesday.

Stokes, the twenty-fourth-ranked quarterback prospect in his graduating class, issued an apology via Twitter after losing his scholarship with the Gators.

“I sincerely apologize for the lyrics I chose to use in the song,” his statement said in part. “I fully accept the repercussions of my actions, and I respect the University of Florida’s decision to revoke my football scholarship.”
