MOBILE, Alabama — Gulf Distributing, one of the oldest beverage distributors in the Southeast, has announced intentions to relocate its operations from Moffett Road to Downtown Mobile as part of a project that will generate 25 jobs and bolster the company’s position in the city.

According to the Mobile Chamber, the company will renovate the former Press Register Building at 401 North Water Street, extend and alter the current warehouse to meet its demands, and upgrade the office space.

Elliot B. Maisel, chairman and chief executive officer of Gulf Distributing, stated that the company is “bursting at the seams” at its old location and that the relocation will offer the necessary space for expansion.

Maisel stated, “We believe this location can fulfill our demand for additional space while also allowing us to convert to a more contemporary and efficient building.” “Our staff are also thrilled to be located in downtown Mobile, which has so much to offer in terms of food and culture and is among the most desirable districts in the area.

“Most importantly, it has ample growth potential over the next half-century,” he continued.

‘POSITIVE IMPACT’

This development will be beneficial to both Gulf Distributing and the Mobile area.

The project includes renovations to the remaining office space so that it may be leased as Class A commercial space to other tenants, making the building ideal for additional downtown Mobile headquarters.

This relocation will play a crucial role in the revival of Downtown Mobile, as we seek to attract more back-office businesses to the area. stated Bradley Byrne, president and CEO of the Mobile Chamber of Commerce.

Since 1973, Gulf Distributing has been an exemplary corporate citizen in our city, and we are delighted to see the company continue to grow and prosper.

The $32.5 million renovation is anticipated to create 25 new employment and preserve 220 existing positions.

Greg Canfield, secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce, stated, “Gulf Distributing’s strategic growth plans indicate that the company is bullish on Mobile, its home base for the past five decades, and the region’s long-term economic potential.”

This venture will benefit Gulf Distributing and the Mobile area, he added.

GROWTH

The Mobile Chamber stated that the move and improved operations will allow Gulf Distributing’s distribution zone to continue to expand.

This is a win-win situation for both the City of Mobile and Gulf Distributing, according to Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson. “It’s amazing to see such a prominent and magnificent building in our downtown revitalized by a local business that has made such a significant investment in the neighborhood.

We are thrilled for Gulf Distributing and pleased to see the revitalization of Downtown Mobile continue.

“The Mobile County Commission is ecstatic to see Gulf Distributing, a good corporate citizen, continue to invest in Mobile County by relocating to the former Press-Register facility. This decision will not only save jobs, but also provide new employment possibilities and continue to develop the downtown business community, said Connie Hudson, president of the Mobile County Commission.

The announcement was made today at a meeting of the Mobile Industrial Development Board.
