The Eastern Cape-born actress Kamvelihle “Kay” Bikitsha admits to Sunday World that she was frightened and perspiring during her audition for the character of Nozuko in Gqeberha: The Empire.
“When I finally auditioned for this show, I was overwhelmed. Initially, I auditioned multiple times for Nobomi, then I recall receiving a call to audition for Nozuko.
“When I read the assignment, I believed I could not do it. Even from her description alone, it was clear that she was an indomitable lady.
“She felt it was overwhelming, and I didn’t think I could carry her to the best of my capacity because she was something else, overwhelming.
“I didn’t believe I could do her justice, and I didn’t believe I could be as honest as I could be because I was already afraid to play her, afraid of her as a character.
The youngest star of Gqeberha: The Empire, Kamvelihle Bikisha, reveals to Sunday World that she prayed for the part of Nozuko.
The 22-year-old actress shares the stage with Zikhona Sodlaka of The Wife and Zandile Msutwana of The Queen.
“Bikitsha added her role was the most nerve-wracking experience for her as she felt playing a character six years older than she would be a hassle for her, especially considering that she characterises someone who is deeply in love and facing womanly issues that she has not faced yet”, reports Sunday World.
Additionally, Tembinkosi Ngcukana is “grateful” for his role in “Gqeberha: The Empire.”
