Shortly after the social media giant’s censorship, Republican legislators referred to Twitter’s suppression of The Washington Post’s landmark Hunter Biden laptop story as the “tipping point” of big tech.

The remarks, revealed in internal emails made public on Friday and shared by Twitter CEO Elon Musk, came after NetChoice, a lobbying firm for major tech companies including Twitter, Meta, TikTok, and Google, polled 12 congressional members, including nine Republicans, shortly after the exposé was censored.

“At the highest level, every Republican stated, ‘This is a turning moment. It is simply too much,’” According to an internal email acquired by journalist Matt Taitaibi, NetChoice’s CEO Carl Szabo warned Twitter’s head of public policy Lauren Culbertson that the social media platform may face a “blood bath” in congressional hearings.

In an email, one of the lawmaker’s aides is cited as stating, “Tech is doomed, and rightly so.”

The email stated that the lawmakers and their workers ranged from members of the House Judiciary Committee to the office of Representative Judy Chu.
