‘Gingerbread Cottage’ is a grade II listed building and was once the gatehouse to the historic Trelowarren Estate in Cornwall

For £325,000, a thatched cottage that appears to have come from a fairy tale has been up for sale.

The historic Trelowarren Estate in Cornwall’s “Gingerbread Cottage,” a grade II listed structure, previously served as its gatehouse.

The house is one of the most photographed cottages in the region and is located on the edge of a region of remarkable natural beauty beside the Helford River.

Currently being used as a vacation rental, the peculiar property draws visitors from throughout the nation and internationally.

The Vyvyan family has owned the adjoining Trelowarren Estate from the early 15th century, however its history goes back thousands of years.

The historic gatehouse has a thatched roof and an octagonal design made of cut stone and granite.

The 18th-century house features enormous arched windows, odd room layouts, exposed beams, brickwork, and a kitchen with a slate flagged floor.

The cottage has a distinctive rustic design with arched windows, thick 18th-century walls and unique stonework

The home’s 583 square feet of living space are divided between a bedroom with a dressing room on the first floor and a kitchen/dining room, sitting room, and bathroom on the ground floor.

Off-road parking, a cottage garden, a “suntrap courtyard,” and an elevated terrace are all located outside.

The popular village of Gweek lies nearby the cottage, which is located at the head of the Helford River.

Between Gunwalloe and Porthleven, a few miles distant, is one of Cornwall’s longest sandy beaches, and the region is well-known for sailing.

“Gingerbread Cottage is a Grade II Listed thatched cottage,” said Glenn McFadzean of estate firm Lillicrap Chilcott.

It’s a charming, cozy cottage with a lot of personality.

We gave the owners the property roughly seven years ago. The fact that the previous owner and the present owners both used it as a vacation rental doesn’t preclude a future owner from using it as their primary residence.

The property has parking and a lovely garden.

The Helford River and all the lovely areas of the Lizard Peninsula are near by, and the village of Gweek has a thriving community.
