One Texas nursery in Austin has been victimized by a series of robberies in the last two months, resulting in the loss of $49,000 in stolen goods. Owner Rodney Stoutenger appeared on “Mornings with Maria” and explained that Garden Seventeen has suffered four separate robberies in this period.
The situation has been challenging for the business, with products disappearing and damage to the store itself. Stoutenger added that the robber seems to be getting more aggressive or brazen in his actions.
According to Stoutenger, it is the same perpetrator responsible for all four robberies. He stated that the culprit has distinctive tattoos on his neckline and baseline, as shown in some of the videos.
Stoutenger has received assistance from some neighbouring local businesses in identifying the suspect, who has been caught on their security cameras as well. In an effort to prevent further theft, Garden Seventeen is adding additional lighting and surveillance cameras around its property, as well as breaking down displays and putting them inside.
The store owner said that they are trying to identify areas of vulnerability on their property to add more cameras. With ongoing security adjustments and repairs, the total amount lost due to the robberies has risen to about $54,000.
The financial loss has been difficult for the small business, as they are still waiting for insurance reimbursements. Stoutenger is hopeful that the robberies will come to an end soon, and that the perpetrator will be caught with the help of their security measures and local businesses.
