‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ rapper Coolio dies at 59

Los Angeles – The New York Times reported that Grammy-winning musician Coolio died on Wednesday after being discovered comatose at a friend’s Los Angeles house. He was 59.

Born Artis Leon Ivey Jr., Coolio is best known for his 1995 hit “Gangsta’s Paradise,” which appeared on the album of the same name.

The next year, this song, a major smash included in the film Dangerous Minds, received the Grammy Award for best rap solo performance.

The rapper passed away at a local hospital about 5 p.m. pacific time (8 p.m. EDT), according to his manager Jarez Posey. Posey informed the newspaper that Ivey had been discovered unresponsive in a friend’s bathroom.

Jarez revealed to TMZ that rescuers feared he had a heart attack.

No narcotics or drug paraphernalia were recovered at the location of his death, according to law enforcement officials.

In addition, an autopsy and toxicology test will be conducted to determine the official cause of death, according to the newspaper.

There were no reports of the cause of death immediately available.

The police have begun a death investigation, but there are currently no indications of foul play, they said.

After moving to Compton, California, Ivey, who was born in Pennsylvania in 1963, began performing as part of the West Coast hip-hop culture.

His debut album “It Takes a Thief” was published in 1994, and the single “Lakeside” reached the Top Ten.
