Former Chiefs great earns important Bafana position

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender David Nyathi and former Bafana Bafana captain Aaron Mokoena have been given new offices at SAFA in order to assist the national team.

The confirmation states that Nyathi will be the Chief Scout and Mokoena will be his assistant. At SAFA, the responsibility of scouting potential national team players has existed for decades.

Nyathi and Mokoena’s jobs will entail following and monitoring every player of South African ancestry who is playing or was born abroad – and there are many of them in Europe.

Walter Steenbok, the recently appointed Technical Director of SAFA, told iDiskiTimes, “We’ve appointed David Nyathi as the Association’s Chief Scout and Aaron Mbazo Mokoena as the assistant Chief Scout.”

Nyathi’s post-playing experience includes about a decade of teaching at one of South Africa’s top academies, Ajax Cape Town, whereas Mokoena formerly served as an assistant coach at Cape Town Cit.
