A federal judge in South Florida denied former President Donald Trump’s request for a third party to review documents seized from his Mar-a-Lago club in August after an appeals court ruled earlier this month that she had jurisdiction in the case.

US District Judge Aileen Cannon closed the case in a one-page order filed on Monday, 11 days after a three-judge panel of the Atlanta-based 11th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Cannon had erred in ordering Brooklyn federal judge Raymond Dearie to examine documents seized from the Palm Beach residence on August 8 to determine whether they were protected by attorney-client or other privileges.

The investigation into whether Trump violated federal law controlling the retention of sensitive data by removing presidential papers and other materials to Mar-a-Lago after leaving the White House in January 2021 was halted by Cannon’s order appointing Dearie as special master on September 5.

This is an evolving narrative.
