Families must identify the deceased since the driver “screamed for assistance.”

Since it has been established that the putative driver and only survivor was heard “screaming for help” among the debris, the grieving relatives of the five youngsters who perished in the horrific incident will have to visit the mortuary to identify the remains.

At around 8 o’clock on Tuesday night in Buxton, a Nissan Navara truck ran off East Parade, killing Lily van de Putte, 15, Antonio Desisto, 16, two 14-year-old females, and a 15-year-old boy.

Tyrell Edwards, 18, was the alleged driver and the only survivor of the collision.

According to police, Edwards recorded the incident on Snapchat while driving furiously and swerving at 90 km/h.

He was charged with five charges of reckless driving resulting in death on Thursday afternoon and appeared in Picton Local Court.

Edwards will go back to court on November 16 after being formally denied bail.

Excaven Desisto, Antonio’s anguished father, said to Daily Mail Australia outside court on Thursday: “Parents get to see their kids at home, but I have to visit mine in a f*****g mortuary.”

Throughout the bail hearing, Mr. Desisto sobbed while sitting in the courtroom.

Investigators are certain that each teen has been accurately identified, but a friend or relative must visit Lidcombe’s Forensic Medicine and Coroner’s Complex to verify visually.

The Sydney Morning Herald quoted a woman who arrived first at the scene on Tuesday night as saying she hurried to the intersection with her two teenage sons after they allegedly heard a “vehicle moving fast, followed by a tremendous boom.”

When they learned that they knew several of the victims—many of them were still donning their Picton High School uniforms—they were all horrified.

Tyrell Edwards, the 18-year-old suspected driver, was the only survivor and was heard “screaming for aid” when a local homeowner arrived on the site after hearing the collision.

Working as a trauma nurse, the woman claimed: “I tried to perform CPR, but only one of them had a pulse.” I was unable to assist her.

One person was thrown from the ute onto the road, which had been broken in half.

She claimed that because of how horrifying the scene was, she had problems determining how many people were in the car at first.

She continued, “I’ve seen it all, but not as awful as this.”

Following the crash, Edwards was brought to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Friends flocked to social media in the meanwhile to express touching tributes.

One boy posted on Tik Tok, “On the 6th of September I lost several of my best friends to a horrific automobile crash.

This is for you guys,” along with a slideshow of images of some of the fatalities, including Miss Van De Putte.

Images of the schoolgirl show her hanging out with her best friend, who died in the collision, and hanging out with her friends at lunchtime and on weekends.

One friend said, “We’ll get through this together, mate.”

I love you so much buddy, one day at a time, was another message.

I never knew the love I felt for you until I heard, and then I realised I never got to hold, hear, or see you again. Rest easy my loves, I’ll miss you all dearly, a buddy wrote in another Tik Tok video.

I’m so sorry for your loss, sweetie. I’m always available for conversation, someone retorted.

Take it easy, we all love you, and heal at your own pace.

When Edwards appeared in court via video link, he was seated with his hands clenched and had an expressionless face. He was also sporting a black sweatshirt.

The decision to deny bail was “not made easily,” according to Magistrate Mark Douglass, although he had taken into account Edwards’ driving record.

He has experienced two three-month suspensions for speeding since receiving his temporary licence in February 2021.

The magistrate stated, “Given the egregious breach of trust and the blatant violation of road rules that police allege occurred, this court has no confidence that this specific person would comply, given the history I’ve explained, with any bail conditions the court sets at this specific point in time.”

The court heard that labourer Edwards, who has a history of nervousness, has been “seriously traumatised” by the incident and will require psychiatric care.

In detention, he will also get mental health assistance.
