Fall Out Boy guitarist Joe Trohman quits due “deteriorated” mental health

Joe Trohman, founding member and guitarist of Fall Out Boy, has announced his departure from the group.

Trohman took to social media just hours after announcing their upcoming album, “So Much (For) Stardust,” to announce his mental health has “rapidly deteriorated” and caused him to halt his music career.

“Without divulging all the details, I must disclose that my mental health has rapidly declined over the past several years,” Trohman said in an Instagram post for Fall Out Boy.

“Therefore, in order to avoid fading away and never returning, I will be taking a break from work, which unfortunately includes a brief separation from Fall Out Boy.”

Neil Young reportedly proclaimed that it is preferable to burn out than to fade away, according to the message written by Trohman. “However, I can say unequivocally that burning out is horrible.”

Trohman and Patrick Stump established the pop-punk band in 2001. In the years that followed, bassist Pete Wentz and drummer Andy Hurley joined the duo.

In his announcement, Trohman mentioned that the band’s eagerly awaited new album, the first since 2018, will be released on March 24.

“It pains me to make this decision, particularly when we are releasing a new album that fills me with immense pride (the sin I’m most proud of),” he wrote.

Trohman told supporters that his separation from the band is temporary.

The issue therefore remains: Will I return to the fold? Unquestionably, one hundred percent,” he wrote. “In the interim, I must recover, which necessitates prioritizing myself and my mental health.”

Joe Trohman informed his followers that he will return and rejoin the band, stating that he is only taking a little sabbatical.

Trohman expressed gratitude to his bandmates and family for “understanding and respecting this difficult, yet necessary decision.”

“Smell Joe Trohman sooner rather than later,” he concluded.
