Police in Limpopo have increased their search for a guy suspected of murdering an old woman with a panga and attempting to murder her daughter.
The incident allegedly occurred at approximately 01:00 on 21 January 2023 in the Mashau Bodwe community outside Louis Trichardt.
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, a spokesperson for the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo, stated that the dead, her daughter, and three grandkids were sleeping when the daughter’s claimed ex-boyfriend forcibly entered the home and began hacking both ladies with a panga.
The suspect then forcibly placed their five-year-old child in his mother’s (ex-girlfriend) vehicle and fled. Ledwaba stated that both victims were transported to the hospital after suffering severe injuries.
“After the horrifying occurrence, authorities opened two cases of attempted murder, kidnapping, and auto theft. An immediate search for the culprit was initiated.
“The vehicle was later discovered abandoned in Makhado, and the child was soon located safe and sound at his father’s homestead in Mashamba village, but the suspect had vanished,” he explained.
Malesela stated that the elderly woman, later identified as Rose Mabasa, succumbed to her wounds, and the attempted murder charge was upgraded to murder.
A senior citizen hacked panga.
