According to a report on Tuesday, billionaire Elon Musk is “actively exploring” for a new CEO at Twitter after people voted for him to step aside from overseeing the social media network.

Musk has acted as Twitter’s CEO since acquiring the business for $44 billion in late October, according to unnamed sources cited by CNBC’s David Faber. Musk is currently evaluating potential candidates to serve as his permanent successor.

“It should come as no surprise that Musk is aggressively seeking a new Twitter CEO. “It doesn’t take a genius to tell you that,” Faber remarked on Tuesday morning’s “Squawk Box.” As seen by his prior surveys, he frequently has a general idea of the outcome before he asks people to participate in a poll.

Faber continued, “From what I have heard, he has been actively searching, inquiring, and attempting to determine who the true candidate pool would be.”

Musk asked his 120 million Twitter followers on Sunday if he should “step down as Twitter’s CEO” and pledged to “abide by the results of this poll.” 57.5 percent of respondents said he should resign, while 42.5 percent said he should remain in office.

Faber stated that he had “heard a great deal of different names of potential candidates” from his contacts, but he refused to disclose potential replacements.

Musk has not indicated publicly whether he has compiled a short list of candidates. According to Bloomberg, though, some of Musk’s top advisors who have been active at Twitter since his takeover are viable candidates.

The news source reported that investor Jason Calacanis, former PayPal executive David Sacks, and Andreessen Horowitz partner Sriram Krishnan all played an active role in Musk’s takeover of Twitter.

Calacanis published a Twitter poll on Sunday asking his fans whether he, Sacks, a combination of the two, or another candidate should lead the company.

Musk hinted in another tweet that he was uncertain whether he could find a suitable replacement.

Musk tweeted on Sunday, “The difficulty is not finding a CEO; the question is finding a CEO who can keep Twitter alive.”

Twitter has been contacted by The Post for comment. Last month, Musk dismissed the company’s communications team.

The billionaire has been heavily criticized for his leadership at Twitter, where he oversaw large layoffs and controversial changes to the social media platform’s verification system. The billionaire also allowed the release of the so-called “Twitter Files” documenting the company’s past censoring policies.

Should I resign as Twitter’s CEO? I shall adhere to the outcomes of this poll.

Musk has signaled for weeks that he intended his tenure as Twitter’s chief executive to be transitory, telling a court last month that he planned “to reduce my time at Twitter and find someone else to run Twitter over time.”

Musk is also the CEO of electric car manufacturer Tesla, space company SpaceX, brain chip business Neuralink, and tunneling company Boring Company.
