Elon Musk is conducting a Twitter poll to see if he should re-invite former President Donald Trump to the platform, and early results indicate that almost half of respondents have voted “yes.”

Musk tweeted “Vox Populi, Vox Dei” few minutes after uploading the poll at 7:47 p.m. on Friday. The Latin phrase means “the people’s voice is God’s voice.” The poll was scheduled to be open for twenty-four hours.

Saturday morning at the midpoint of the voting period, more than 9.5 million ballots had been cast. Musk’s supporters endorsing Trump’s reinstatement had a tiny edge over Trump’s opponents, 52.4% to 47.2%.

Three hours earlier, Musk had boasted in another tweet, “Trump poll receiving 1,000,000 votes per hour!”

After pro-Trump support surged to an early lead on Friday night, Becker News CEO and former Fox News associate producer Kyle Becker tweeted, “Democrats will need to halt the count in order to collect mail-in ballots.”

Musk published the poll only hours after he postponed a decision to return Trump to Twitter but announced the removal of suspensions on three other banned accounts.

“Trump has not yet made a choice,” Musk tweeted on Friday.

The software entrepreneur did disclose the restoration of the satirical news website Babylon Bee, the controversial author Jordan Peterson, and the fiery entertainer Kathy Griffin.

Musk, who paid $44 billion for Twitter, has long promised to restore Trump, who has been banned from the service since the US Capitol Riot on January 6, 2021.

Trump, for his part, has promised to remain on Truth Social, the social networking program he created after being banned from major networks in the aftermath of the Capitol incident.

According to reports, major advertisers on Twitter have threatened to cut connections with the site if Musk reinstates Trump.
