During her tour of Northern Ireland, the Princess of Wales faces jeers from the crowd

During an unscheduled walkabout in Northern Ireland today, the Princess of Wales was confronted by an Irish nationalist.

During the meet and greet this afternoon in north Belfast, the woman remarked to Princess Kate that “Ireland belongs to the Irish.”

“Nice to meet you, but it would be nicer if you were in your own country,” the woman replied as she shook hands with the princess.

The woman appeared to be recording the conversation on her phone.

Hundreds of people lined the Marine Highway in Carrickfergus, north of Belfast, during Kate and William’s visit to the Co Antrim town.

They shook hands and fist-bumped with local students who had waited for hours to see the royal couple.

They had already visited a local charity before being welcomed by the Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Noel Williams.

On the morning of their wedding in 2011, the late Queen bestowed the titles of Baron and Baroness Carrickfergus upon William and Kate.
