Police have detained a driving instructor after he tested positive for cannabis while instructing a 17-year-old student.
Following a tip-off that the teacher was under the influence of narcotics, Thames Valley Police pulled up the car that had been traveling through Slough in Berkshire.
The teacher of the white driving school car was requested to exit the vehicle and submit to a drug test after it was pulled over.
He was detained when the tests revealed he had been using marijuana while driving.
‘We stopped the car in Slough, which at the time was being driven by a 17-year-old pupil, and astonishingly the Driving Instructor tested positive for Cannabis,’ the police said in a statement released on social media.
“The driving instructor was detained on suspicion of driving under the influence.” Officers are awaiting the results of his blood test before releasing him under investigation.
However, according to his line of work, all relevant authorities will be alerted as we have a responsibility to protect everyone involved.
If found guilty of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, a driving teacher often faces a minimum four-year suspension.
A female driving teacher tested positive for drug use in 2017, and was therefore given an 18-month driving restriction.

One is “unlikely to be classified as a “fit and appropriate” individual” to become a driving teacher if they have been found guilty of driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
