DHL partners with Chimpanzee to relocate rescued chimpanzees to Liberia.

In honor of World Chimpanzee Day and to promote the welfare, protection, and conservation of the world’s chimpanzee population, DHL (www.DPDHL.com) collaborated with Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue & Protection (LCRP) to provide logistics services for the relocation of four rescued chimpanzees from Guinea-Bissau to Liberia.

Four chimpanzees in danger were transported from Guinea-Bissau to Liberia in a secure manner by DHL Express Sub Saharan Africa (SSA) and Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue & Protection (LCRP).

All four rescued chimpanzees were relocated to their new home last weekend, on Saturday, July 9, just in time to observe World Chimpanzee Day on July 14 thanks to DHL’s many years of experience transporting wildlife.

The collaboration aims to increase public awareness about the welfare, preservation, and conservation of the critically endangered global chimpanzee population.

“DHL’s expertise in moving animals is unmatched, and we could not imagine working with another logistics company to guarantee the security of these delicate chimpanzees.

Without the dedication of the Pan African Sanctuary Alliance (PASA), the Born Free Foundation, the Jane Goodall Institute, and the governments of Guinea-Bissau (Directorate General for Forests and Fauna) and Liberia (Forestry Development Authority), this program would not be possible.

It is prohibited to injure or keep chimpanzees as pets in both nations because they are a critically endangered species, according to Jenny Desmond, founder of Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue and Protection.

In order to save chimpanzees from the illegal bush meat and pet trades, the Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue and Protection (LCRP) organization was established in 2016.

To secure the preservation of wild chimpanzees in Liberia and throughout the world and to make sure that they are retained in the wild is one of the main goals of LCRP.

The Directorate-General for Forests and Fauna of Guinea-Bissau made the choice to transfer the four chimpanzees Fifi, Tze, Simao, and Tita from Guinea-Bissau to Liberia in order to fight the illegal wildlife trade (IWT).

Negotiations with Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue and Protection were prompted by the absence of a refuge for the four chimpanzees in the nation.

To ensure the chimpanzees’ safe transportation, rehabilitation, and reintegration into a Liberian community that is supportive of their survival, the Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue and Protection collaborated with the governments of Guinea-Bissau and Liberia, a number of organizations dedicated to animal protection, and DHL Express SSA.

The Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue and Protection’s effort to find four rescued chimps a new home makes us quite proud.

Having transported animals for many years, we have accumulated great knowledge in ensuring the unique requirements of the “special cargo.”

Every wildlife expedition we carry out has specific needs.

To ensure that the animals reach their destinations safely and in good health, we constantly communicate with our experts and specialists.

We can help safeguard endangered species, their habitats, and biodiversity by supporting organizations that are dedicated to wildlife, according to DHL Express SSA spokesperson Anthony Beckley, VP Operations.

Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue and Protection connected with DHL thanks to the company’s unmatched African network in order to deliver the “unique cargo” and supply the operational and logistical requirements necessary to ensure the success of this complex African endeavor.

The first time western chimpanzees have been able to be transported within their home region, which is crucial to conserving their distinct culture and features, was made possible by this historic project, which required months of planning.

Of their eleven original countries, western chimpanzees are currently extinct in three and may soon be in five more.

The ATR72 LCD (Large Cargo Door), which is built for large cargo shipments and allows for the least amount of damage while loading and unloading animals, was used to carry the four chimpanzees.

Additionally, the aircraft was altered to provide first-class service for the duration of the 2 hour and 20 minute trip from Guinea-Osvaldo Bissau’s Vieira International Airport to Liberia’s Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport.

The chimps were escorted by Jim Desmond, a veterinarian and co-founder of Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue and Protection, to ensure their safety even more.

Important Information: Chimpanzees should not be kept as pets or made to coexist with people.

The illegal pet trade and bushmeat trafficking are the main causes of the chimpanzee orphans at the LCRP refuge in West Africa.

Poachers brutally killed their mothers, therefore they need constant care.

The orphans are receiving rehabilitation thanks to the hardworking staff and carers, and when they’re older, they’ll be able to thrive in a natural setting with other people.

Please help LCRP in its mission to save endangered chimpanzees and preserve the wild chimpanzee population.
