Despite Child Protective Services being alerted to the residence “dozens of times,” a three-year-old boy’s body was discovered in a freezer.
On Friday morning, Detroit police discovered Chase Allen’s lifeless body inside the dilapidated residence.
According to his grandmother, the small child was blind and had other impairments. He had not been seen since March.
His relatives said that his mother, 30, “couldn’t handle” with him despite their repeated requests for her to look after him.
Additionally, they stated that CPS made “dozens” of visits to the dilapidated home in 2022 alone but was never given access.
Cops arrived at the residence and were suspicious when the lady resisted them and made an attempt to run away.
When they got inside, they discovered Chase’s body in a freezer in the basement, along with five other kids who were living in filth.
The lady was brought into custody, and the five remaining children were transferred to the hospital to consult with a child psychologist.
Toni Haynes, the boy’s grandmother, said that she and other family members had phoned CPS “dozens of times.”
She stated to The Detroit News, “I reported her to CPS.” Many of us contacted, and they would show up and give the kids back to her straight away.
She claimed officials visited the house numerous times but her daughter told them Chase had gone to live with his paternal grandfather’s girlfriend in Coldwater.
She said: ‘But then (the grandfather) got out of jail and he told me Chase wasn’t living with his girlfriend.’
Haynes said relatives visited the property around two weeks ago and again called CPS. Neither she nor police could say how long he had been in the freezer for.
Detroit Police Chief James White said: ‘The discovery would not be possible without the officers’ intuition.
‘They recognized there was something not right in the way the occupant was communicating with them.’
He said at a press conference yesterday: ‘This case has shocked me, and shocked our investigators.
‘The other kids who were in the home — just imagine what they’ve gone through. Imagine what they endured living in that home.
‘You can imagine they’re all going to be suffering from some level of trauma. We’ll learn more in the coming hours and the coming days after the kids are interviewed.’
