Authorities say a man who vanished from Connecticut over a decade ago was discovered dead in upstate New York, where he had presumably been living under a new name.

Robert Hoagland, 59, whose disappearance was featured in an episode of the Investigation Discovery series “Disappeared,” was last seen at a petrol station in Newtown, Connecticut, on the morning of July 28, 2013.

The next day, he was reported missing after failing to pick up his wife from the airport and failing to report to work.

Despite the fact that Hoagland’s wallet, medications, cell phone, and family cars were all located at his apartment, the trail rapidly turned cold.

Now, over a decade later, police suspect Hoagland has been residing in Sullivan County under the alias Richard King since around November 2013.

In July 2013, Robert Hoagland was last seen.

Earlier this week, deputies responded to the “untimely death” of a man in Rock Hill, according to a police statement. At the crime scene, they discovered documents carrying the name Robert Hoagland.

Tuesday, detectives from Newtown met with Sullivan County sheriff’s officials to verify Hoagland’s identify.

According to police, there are no indicators of foul play in his death.

Wednesday, Newtown police acknowledged that there was “no criminal aspect” to Hoagland’s absence and that, out of respect for his family, no further information will be shared.

Hoagland’s family was unaware that he was living under the name Richard King in upstate New York.

Christopher Hoagland, the son of Hoagland, told NBC News that the heartbreaking finding was “very puzzling.”

Christopher, who resides in Minnesota, stated that he will be visiting his relatives in Connecticut or New York. He acknowledged that they do not know what prompted his father’s departure.

“We’re attempting to deal with it now, to be honest. “I haven’t sorted out the specifics,” he replied.
