Commonwealth Bank Tracks Employees with App to Monitor Attendance and Productivity

Commonwealth Bank has implemented a tracking app called Navigate to monitor its employees’ mouse clicks, computer movement, and presence at their desks.

The app has reportedly been used to determine how often a worker is in front of their computer and attending the office, as well as monitor absenteeism, such as long lunch breaks or taking leave.

The bank has ordered some employees to take leave if they are found to be slacking off. Not all of the bank’s 48,000 staff members use the app.

Commonwealth Bank has confirmed that it is collecting data on its employees, and the app was created to help workers access the building, book meeting rooms, and find colleagues.

According to a Commonwealth Bank spokesperson, the app has been useful in identifying what the staff are doing during the day.

The bank has utilized the app’s collected data to ensure that the employees stay connected in various ways and properly document the type of leave taken by staff.

Additionally, it has been helpful in managing office space amid the return of employees to the workplace during and post-pandemic.

While the bank’s move to monitor its employees has garnered positive responses from commenters online, the Finance Sector Union (FSU), which represents many of CBA’s employees, argued that the bank’s employees are overworked and underpaid.

The union suggested that the bank should focus on increasing its staff instead of chasing profits at the expense of workers.

The CBA’s spokesman has refused to comment on Daily Mail Australia’s request for further clarification on the app.

As of this writing, the poll results regarding whether it is fair for a company to monitor its workers’ attendance at the office and computer use by an app showed that 0 votes agreed that it is fair, 0 votes said it depends on the type of work being done, and 0 votes disagreed.
