Holy derivative!

Colin Farrell, a Golden Globe nominee, will reprise the evil role he had in the 2022 hit “The Batman” in the upcoming HBO Max limited series “The Penguin.” (Take that, Robert Pattinson!)

Before filming the blockbuster superhero picture, the 46-year-old Irishman was unaware that his character would receive a spin-off series meant to bridge the gap between “The Batman” and its sequel.

Farrell told Variety on Thursday night at the Palm Springs International Film Awards, where he received the Desert Palm Achievement Award for his work in “The Banshees of Inisherin,” that he wasn’t given nearly enough time to develop the role.

“There was all this wonderful work done by [makeup artists] Mike Marino and Mike Fontaine and his team, and I thought it was only the tip of the iceberg, if you’ll excuse the pun, that we were able to do the six or seven scenes that we did in the picture. I was appreciative, but I desired more,” Farrell remarked.

Colin Farrell’s portrayal of The Penguin in the 2022 smash “The Batman” rendered him unrecognizable.

In fact, he attributes his participation in “The Penguin,” which he will also executive-produce, entirely to the makeup.

“I just realized there was so much I could do with it – age it up, age it down. Mike, he is such a talent that it was actually his work that inspired me.”

During filming in Ireland, the “Minority Report” actor went undetected at a Starbucks because his makeup was so effective.

“They take it in stride in Ireland. People should not be staring,” added Farrell, who will begin filming “The Penguin” in February but has not yet announced a debut date. “People are paying less attention than you believe!” ”

Farrell will attend the Golden Globes on Tuesday night before resuming his nefarious persona as “The Penguin.” After winning in 2009 for “In Bruges,” he is nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for “The Banshees of Inisherin” this year.

Farrell, who also acted in “Thirteen Lives” and “After Yang” in 2022, completed his comeback with this dark comedy about two lifelong friends whose friendship is severed.

Farrell told Vanity Fair, “I’ve spoken to a few people about ‘Banshees,’ or they’ve told me how the film made them feel less alone.” “It’s a beautiful thing when the questions I hold as a human being are exposed to be as communal as I honestly want them to be. It also makes me feel less alone.”
