Claire Foy felt ‘very honoured’ to play Queen Elizabeth II

Claire Foy is “very privileged” to have portrayed Queen Elizabeth in “The Crown.”

The 38-year-old actress praised the late monarch, who passed away on September 8 at the age of 96, as a “incredible” leader while also remembering her place in the royal family. She also expressed her gratitude for having portrayed the early years of the queen’s reign in the first two seasons of Netflix’s regal drama.

She stated to the BBC, “I believe that she was an extraordinary ruler.”

She was a gigantic emblem of continuity, majesty, and grace.

“My primary emotion is thinking about her as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and I feel very privileged to have had a small role in her life.”

A few days before to Foy’s remarks, Olivia Colman, who played the queen in “The Crown’s” third and fourth seasons, also paid respect to the late monarch.

She stated, “I don’t even know where to start with that. As a young woman, she made a pledge, which she kept with such dignity. Everyone is quite amazed by what she did.”

The “Empire of Light” actress also complimented King Charles’ first address to the nation, in which he paid a heartfelt tribute to his mother and swore to serve with “loyalty, respect, and love.”

She stated, “From a British perspective, he did it so magnificently. He did it with regard to love, tolerance, and gentleness, which is what she has always desired and what she has achieved.

“From the perspective of the rest of the world, Great Britain is currently experiencing both a farce — politics — and something so respectable. I was pleased to be British. I believe he will do a terrific job.”
