As part of a ‘summer of discontent,’ Britain’s largest trade union has vowed strike action that could cripple the NHS.
Unison general secretary Christina McAnea said she would ‘strongly advocate’ walkouts if Ministers grant a 3% pay raise to health care workers in England, as expected.
Unison, which represents almost 500,000 health care employees, is calling for a raise similar to the Retail Price Index, which is now at 11%.
The threat comes as the hardline RMT union prepares to strike on June 21, 23, and 25 to put the train network to a halt.
According to a senior rail source, the RMT has privately threatened that unless its demands are met, this will be the first of a series of strikes ‘throughout the summer and beyond.’
