Chicco Twala latest: Music producer slams Bheki Cele ‘bribery’ claims

Longwe Twala, the son of legendary music producer Chicco Twala, was one of six people who were present when Bafana Bafana captain and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa was tragically shot and killed in Vosloorus in October 2014.

According to Netflix’s recently released five-part series Senzo: Murder of a Soccer Star, a Twitter account that goes by the handle of Man’s Not Barry Roux, reportedly claimed that Chicco and Longwe were involved in Meyiwa’s death.

On Senzo: Murder of a Soccer Star, investigative journalist Mzilikazi wa Afrika shares that there are two theories on how Senzo Meyiwa was killed. One of the theories involves Longwe Twala.

“All their statements claim that thugs came into the house,” Meyiwa’s brother Sifiso says in the documentary.

“Those statements are lies. The truth is, Senzo was shot breaking up a fight between Longwe and Zandie [Longwe’s girlfriend at the time].

“Longwe had a gun and a shot went off, by mistake”.

Mzilikazi wa Afrika revealed that on the night of Senzo’s death, his girlfriend and celebrity singer Kelly Khumalo made a few “important calls”. One of them was allegedly to her music producer, Chicco Twala.

“Why do you phone your music producer when your boyfriend, who has got nothing to do with him, is killed?” Wa Afrika asks.

In response to why Kelly would call him, Twala said: “I don’t understand why if Kelly calls me, it’s a problem. “Is it a crime to be called and [rush] to hospital?”

Chicco Twala was arrested on Monday 2 May after he allegedly pointed a gun and assaulted a City Power technician on Sunday evening at his home in Johannesburg north.

Speaking to SowetanLIVE about his arrest, Twala said it was a “victory” to him and a “defeat” to those who have portrayed him as the “mafia who is behind Senzo Meyiwa’s killing”.

“I am texting from my cell as we speak,” Twala said.

“My arrest is proof that I am not above the law… Haters on social media claim that I bribed judges, police — including Police Minister Bheki Cele — whom I don’t even know, to protect my son… Where will I get that kind of money to bribe all these powerful peopl?” the 59-year-old music producer continued.
