Buckingham Palace has replaced Queen Elizabeth’s monogram with King Charles’

As the royal season of mourning draws to a close, Buckingham Palace has unveiled the new monogram of King Charles III.

According to a royal news release issued to Insider, the monogram consists of Charles’ first initial and the initial of his title, Rex — Latin for King — alongside a crown.

Omid Scobie, a royal biographer, announced the new design on Twitter.

According to the news release, the king selected the design from a series of designs prepared by The College of Arms. The Scottish version of the monogram includes the Scottish crown, which has been approved by Lord Lyon King of Arms, according to the press release.

The monogram will replace Queen Elizabeth’s previous monogram, which consisted of the letters “ER” and a crown. The Queen’s monogram appeared on government buildings, state documents, royal household correspondence, and some mailboxes.

The palace announced in a press statement that the process of changing the Queen’s monogram with the future monarch’s will be gradual and “at the discretion of individual organizations.”

The release of the monogram corresponds with the conclusion of the Queen’s period of mourning.

On Tuesday, the royal family marked the end of the royal mourning period on Twitter and updated its profile picture to a photo of Charles and Camilla, Queen Consort.
