A meth-addled motorist who ran into an oncoming vehicle while veering into the opposite side of the road and killing his girlfriend received a nine-year sentence.
In June of last year, disaster struck when Joseph John Hill was operating a vehicle without a licence in Bowenville, west of Brisbane.
Brooke Holder, a 29-year-old mother of five who was riding in the front seat with Hill, was killed instantaneously when Hill veered into the opposing lane to pass another vehicle and then struck the truck.
Hill, who has tattoos all over his head and face, admitted to driving while impaired by drugs, driving without a licence, and operating a vehicle dangerously.
According to the Courier Mail, he was given a nine-year prison term and will be available for release in February 2027.
Ruth Deuble, the mother of Ms. Holder, presented a tragic victim impact statement before Dalby District Court.
When the police called back, Ms. Deuble stated, “my heart sank while waiting for their call back, then my heart shattered into pieces and I sobbed and screamed.”
“My grandkids really miss her.” They won’t have their mother with them at every milestone as they grow up without her.
“I simply want to know why he was driving so fast that morning,” you could say.
The weather was not a role in the collision, the court was informed, and the road was dry and level.
Ten minutes before to the collision that killed his fiancée, Hill barely missed colliding with another automobile and a road train.
Hill, according to crown prosecutor Brendan White, had a 12-page criminal record, which included an incident in which he crashed a stolen automobile into a police car.
He has now murdered someone, which Mr. White described as terribly predictable.
The incident caused Hill, a father of a girl, to lose mobility in his right arm, and the court was told that he expressed regret for his conduct.
Judge Nathan Jarro suspended Hill’s licence for acting in a “grossly stupid” manner.
