British lady alleging gang-rape in Greece had no arrest warrant

After a British lady claimed she was gang-raped by a bunch of Belgians, Greek police acknowledged that they had not filed an arrest order and said that “it is not proven whether her accusations are real.”

Greek police spokesman Konstantina Damoglidou said: “We continue to investigate the allegations because authorities have not yet determined that her claims are true and moved to arrest or remand the men in custody.”

After a night of heavy drinking in the hedonistic resort town of Faliraki on the island of Rhodes, the victim allegedly was raped by a gang of four Belgian males. Authorities are awaiting the results of a forensic examination and medical tests the victim requested.

The official added: ‘No suspect has been apprehended since no arrest warrant has been issued.’

Years ago, Greece dreaded the arrival of British visitors during the summer, particularly on islands like Rhodes, since they worried that their boisterous behaviour would undermine the country’s idyllic vacation reputation and convert famous resorts into hedonistic destinations.

However, hotels and tourism-related businesses on Rhodes, Crete, and other sun-drenched Greek islands have been celebrating this summer over the rising return of British tourists after being thrown into disarray by the COVID-19 pandemic.

There was no information given about the British lady. However, according to the police, she was out partying in Faliraki with a group of pals when four Belgian males joined them. According to the local daily Dimokratiki, the British woman admitted to having consensual intercourse with one of the Belgian males both inside and on the hotel balcony. She said that at that time, her pals had departed.

They “appears to have struck it off” and returned to their hotel, the police official added. She said that having sex was her decision.

However, after leaving, she reported being gang raped after being restrained by two of the four. She doesn’t mention their names by name in her allegations.

According to the woman’s account to the police, she left the hotel and took a cab back to the one she was staying at.

On Monday morning at 7 a.m. local time, she called the police to report the alleged gang rape.

Four unnamed suspects from Belgium have been taken into custody by police. The four males have been named by the British lady as her accused assailants.

As authorities look for the other suspects, investigators have gathered DNA samples from the four males.
