Botswana’s Double Action Ladies tied Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies 1-1 on Tuesday in Durban

Double Action Ladies from Botswana held Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies to a 1-1 draw at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Durban on Tuesday afternoon.

Despite having a powerful offensive line-up that included Melinda Kgadiete, Andisiwe Mgcoyi, and Rhoda Mulaudzi, Botswana’s tough opponents withstood the early storms of assaults.

However, Double Action seized the lead when Tiisetso Makhubela headed the ball into her net as she attempted to remove the danger.

The Brazilians equalized five minutes later, courtesy to Melinda Kgadiete, who scored her third goal of the season and eighth overall in the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA Qualifier to take the all-time scoring lead.

Sundowns Ladies made multiple substitutions after the interval in an attempt to score a second goal, and Lelona Daweti got the closest in the 70th minute when she hit the crossbar.

Despite the arrival of Boitumelo Rabale, the Brazilians were unable to score, and the game finished one all.

Coach Agnes ‘Madala’ Nkosi lauded the opponents’ defensive structure after the game and encouraged her players to keep working hard.

“We faced a well-organized opponent who demonstrated that they had learnt from last year’s tournament.” Despite our best efforts, we ended up with an unexpected outcome. Nonetheless, we have a possibility of succeeding. Regardless of the outcome, we are a force to be reckoned with, and we will dust ourselves off and prepare for the next game,” Madala added.

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies stay top of Group A following a 1-1 draw, with four points after two games. Double Action Ladies has one point, while Mozambique’s Costa Do Sol is yet to score.

On Thursday, Double Action and Costa Do Sol will square off for three points.
