Bo Horvat has been waiting for his chance to play a postseason game in front of a home crowd since April 23, 2015. Back then, he was a 19-year-old rookie playing for the Vancouver Canucks in a first-round series against the Flames, which they ultimately lost. Horvat had an average ice time of 12:40 during the series.

However, Horvat was part of Vancouver’s run to the second round of the playoffs during the bubble in 2020. Despite this, he still feels the motivation to play meaningful hockey games in front of fans.

He expressed this sentiment to The Post, saying, “It’s been way too long. So it’s about time I get back there.”

Currently, the New York Islanders occupy the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, but they face stiff competition from the Florida Panthers and the Pittsburgh Penguins. To secure their place in the postseason, they need to win at least two games during their West Coast trip and perform well in their final three weeks of divisional matchups.

Horvat is familiar with passionate fan bases, having played for years in British Columbia, but he’s impressed by Long Island’s fervor. He appreciates how the Islanders’ fan base wants the team to succeed and wants to win as many games for them as possible.

If the Islanders can sweep their West Coast trip, their general manager, Lou Lamoriello, will become just the second GM in history to reach 1,400 career victories. The Islanders lost their first game against the Kings at the UBS Arena, formerly known as the Staples Center, and haven’t won there since October 18, 2018.
