After DailyMail.com reported that Bill Gates was dating Paula Hurd, the widow of former Oracle CEO Mark Hurd, the Microsoft founder may be entering a family that is just as complicated as his own.
Now, DailyMail.com has learned that Paula has two daughters: Kathryn Hurd, an award-winning investigative journalist, and Kelly, who married into a politically prominent family with close links to Bill and Hillary Clinton.
After it was discovered that he had a two-year romance with a consultant for the firm called Jodie Fisher, Mark Hurd was pushed out of his position as CEO of tech giant Hewlett-Packard in 2010. He allegedly paid hush money totaling more than $1 million to suppress sexual harassment claims Fisher subsequently made.
Gates began a relationship with the widow in 2022, two years after he and Melinda French Gates, his wife of 27 years and 34 years, divorced. According to People Magazine, his current partner has yet to meet any of Gates’ kids.
The mother of the billionaire’s children and ex-wife previously discussed her ‘unbelievably traumatic’ divorce and said she ‘simply couldn’t remain in that marriage longer. Mark Hurd and Paula Hurd were wed for over 30 years until Mark Hurd passed away in 2019 due to disease.
Kathryn Hurd, a journalist located in San Francisco, holds degrees from Wake Forest University in Political Science and Sociology as well as the Graduate School of Journalism at UC Berkeley in Investigative Reporting.
Her website states that she is now working on an investigative piece for her alma mater’s Investigative Reporting Program on systematic problems inside child care agencies.
The journalism department at the University of Berkeley received a gift from the Gates Foundation in 2021 of around $800,000.
Kathryn was a member of the team that produced the PBS documentary American Insurrection on the alt-right and homegrown terrorism, which earned a prestigious Polk Award in 2022.
The seven-part series’ climax was the Capitol riot on January 6.
The San Francisco Examiner, ProPublica, and Buzzfeed have published her previous writing. Kathryn lists her internships at the New York Times and CNBC on her LinkedIn profile.
Kathryn claims that she was raised in the Bay Area and that she first worked in public relations before switching to journalism in an interview with Poynter for American Insurrection.
I didn’t realize the emotional toll that this job can have until I was really in it, the actress said of working on American Insurrection.
In 2018, Kelly Hurd wed Tommy Umberg, the son of retired Army Colonel Tom Umberg and Brigadier General Robin Umberg, a Democratic candidate for California state senator.
Tom Umberg oversaw the California re-election campaign in 1996 as part of Bill Clinton’s bid to win re-election. He was named the Office of National Drug Control Policy’s deputy director in 1997, a position he held until 2000.
Brigadier General Robin Umberg was nominated by Clinton to the board of the US Military Academy at West Point in 2000. She participated in Desert Shield and Desert Storm missions.
When it comes to women in the military, Robin Umberg is regarded as a pioneer. In 2010, she decided to leave the military.
In a 2020 interview, she stated: “Women would approach me towards the end of my career and say, “You showed the way. In a world run by men, you advanced.”
It gave me the willies. I may have been able to open doors, but I lacked the bravery of the women who came after me. I didn’t have the fortitude to speak out while I was being harassed. She said, “I thought that if I said anything, I may not go forward.
Kelly, her husband, and their two kids reside in Northern California. She is a Baylor University alumna who works as a marketing manager for Visa, according to her LinkedIn profile.
In 2011, it was discovered that the couple’s father, Mark Hurd, had harassed consultant Jodie Fisher over a period of years with “aggressive romantic attempts.” She had accused him of sexual harassment.
The CEO was charged by Fisher’s attorney of expecting sexual favors in return for awarding her business. As a consequence of the affair, Mark Hurd gave Fisher $1 million in hush money.
After criticizing HP’s board for being “cowardly,” outspoken Oracle CEO Larry Ellison recruited Mark Hurd with a salary of almost $3 million.
Fisher, on the other hand, persisted in her efforts to break into the acting world, making appearances on episodes of NCIS, Little Big League, the reality series Age of Low, and the “staggeringly terrible” version of the classic Easy Rider.
It’s no secret to their inner circle that Gates and Paula Hurd are in a love relationship, according to a friend who spoke to DailyMail.com on their behalf. “They’ve been dating for over a year and she’s always been labeled as a “mystery lady.”
Hurd, a former IT executive, is now a philanthropist, event planner, and organizer.
While visiting Australia, Paula and Gate were seen attending the Men’s Singles Final at the Australian Open in Melbourne.
In Sydney, where the billionaire met with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, the two also went.
Gates and Paula took advantage of the chance to take a romantic walk across the city, pausing to take in the expansive views of the harbor and visit the renowned Opera House.
Paula had not been recognized when photographs of the two enjoying the sights were released at the time.
The two most likely became close because of their shared enthusiasm for tennis.
They had last been seen together watching the 2022 Laver Cup at the O2 Arena in London in September, before their date at the Australian Open in January.
The devoted sports fans were also seen on camera at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California, in October 2021, although they were separated by a few seats at the time.
When Paula married her late husband, who spent 25 years moving through the ranks at the corporation under the name Kalupa, she was an executive at NCR.
The Hurds have a history of giving to Baylor University, Mark’s alma school. In 2018, they made a major commitment to the university’s $1.1 billion philanthropy effort.
A brand-new $60 million welcome center named after the couple will soon be unveiled on campus thanks to the kind contribution.
Despite receiving a marketing degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1984, Paula partnered with her husband in supporting Baylor’s national championship tennis team, among other notable efforts.
A new project she started last year that awarded $100,000 awards to young, aspiring players at the BNP Paribas Open carried on their legacy.
Paula and Bill were spotted together watching the Women’s Tennis Association semifinal match in Indian Wells only four days after the program’s announcement on March 14.
A few days after their trip to Australia, Gates said in an interview that he is willing to date romantically once again following his divorce.
During a sit-down interview with the BBC last week while on a visit to Kenya, he was asked whether he would want to find love again. He said, “Sure, I’m not a robot,”
